The global golf entertainment company plans to break ground within next two months
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – May 2, 2016 – Global golf entertainment leader Topgolf® today officially unveiled Charlotte as its first location planned in North Carolina. In the coming weeks, Topgolf will begin construction on the 65,000-square-foot venue; the location is expected to open to the public early 2017.
“The location we’ve selected is in close proximity to the airport and all of the surrounding hotels and offices,” said Topgolf Vice President of Real Estate Development Zach Shor, referencing the 14 acres purchased at the southeast quadrant of I-485 and Arrowood Road. “It is the perfect spot for a Topgolf venue, and we are so excited to offer Charlotte residents and visitors another destination for entertainment.”
Topgolf is the only entertainment center of its kind, offering competitive golfing games for all ages and skill levels and advanced technology to track players’ shots. Those who just want to relax can enjoy the upscale, laid-back ambiance that boasts more than 230 high-definition flat-screen TVs and an extensive food and beverage menu.
Shor continued, “As one of the largest regions in the southeast and one of the fastest-growing cities in the U.S., Charlotte has been on Topgolf’s radar for quite some time. Charlotte offers a strong business community, a large fan base of golfers, thriving residents and a mild climate that is ideal to enjoy Topgolf year-round.”
The new three-level venue will include up to 3,000 square feet of private event space and 102 climate-controlled hitting bays that can host up to six players at one time. Shor estimates that Topgolf Charlotte will serve approximately 450,000 visitors in its first year of operation. Nearly half of all Topgolf guests describe themselves as “non-golfers.”
“I have personally visited Topgolf in Alpharetta, Georgia, and I can’t tell you how excited I am that Topgolf is finally coming to Charlotte,” said City Councilman and Chair of the Charlotte Economic Development Committee James Mitchell. “I am happy that we have a great option for private citizens to learn the game while having recreational fun. The corporate community will also be able to take advantage of the fantastic event potential with Topgolf’s corporate events team. It is all around a win-win for the city.”
Topgolf’s economic impact in its local communities is remarkable, creating 450 full- and part-time jobs at each location and serving as an anchor tenant that tends to attract other popular franchises to the area. In fact, its economic output in Charlotte alone is expected to exceed $264.5 million over a 10-year-period, according to a third-party audit.
